From the release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 1937 to Zootopia 2 this year, Walt Disney Animation Studios has portrayed male characters in a variety of styles. In this video, I present three different archetypes that Disney has followed throughout the course of its 90 year film history: the perfect prince, the proving hero, and the emotionally available partner. Each archetype has important qualities, but each also has limitations. Enjoy as I argue how Disney has taken steps forward in the right direction in its portrayals of masculinity in society today.
